To connect PE pipe to PVC pipe, you can use the following methods:
- compression fittings: use compression fittings designed specifically for PE and PVC. These fittings use rubber seals to create a leak-proof connection without the need for heat or welding.
- transition fittings: special transition fittings are available to allow the connection of PE and PVC pipe. These fittings are typically used for PE on one side and PVC on the other to ensure safe compatibility of the joints.
- threaded fittings: for smaller sizes, threaded adapters can be used to connect PE and PVC tubing; PE tubing may require a threaded adapter.
- fittings: use fittings that connect both pipe types to ensure a tight, secure fit. You may need to use a sealant or rubber gasket to further prevent leakage.
PE pipe sizes vary according to nominal diameter (DN), wall thickness and pressure class. Common sizes range from DN 20 mm to DN 1200 mm. The wall thickness depends on the material grade (PE80, PE100) and the pressure class. sdr (standard dimension ratio) values, e.g. sdr 11, sdr 17, indicate the wall thickness, with lower sdr indicating thicker walls. Typical lengths are 6 metres to 12 metres, but custom lengths are available.
