How to Produce PVC Block?
The production process of PVC block consists of the following steps.
Step 1: You should prepare PVC resin in granular form, and stabilizers, plasticizers, and other additives.
Step 2: You should pour the PVC resin granules and additives into the high-speed mixer for full mixing. At this time, the temperature is about 100-120°C, then quickly cools down to 40-50°C to prevent lumping.
Step 3: You should feed the mix into the extruder and heat it to 160-200°C and wait for the raw material to melt, then extrude the PVC block through the rectangular mouth die and cool and set it in the cooling water tank. Or you can put the mix into a rectangular die and then heat and pressurize it to let it mold at 10-20 MPa and 160-180°C. After that, the mold is taken off and cooled.
Step 4: You should use a cutting machine to cut the PVC block to the required size and apply surface treatment such as polishing.
Step 5: You should test the PVC block for compressive strength, corrosion resistance, heat insulation, sound insulation, and other quality tests, and sell it only after passing the test.
How to process PVC Block?
PVC blocks are processed in the following ways.
Machining: You can use a saw to cut the PVC block to the desired size and a milling machine or CNC equipment to machine it to the desired shape. In addition, you can also drill holes in it for fixing other accessories.
Thermoforming and bending: You can soften the PVP block by local heating and set it through the mold, or you can bond the multi-layer PVC block by heating and pressurizing.
Functional modification process: You can add a foaming agent and heat it to 160-200°C to let it decompose, and then form a lightweight and porous structure. You can also spray flame retardants on the surface to improve fire resistance.
Connection: You can use adhesive to bond the PVC block or connect it with bolts or clips.
The price of general-purpose rigid PVC block is about $800-1,000/ton, and the price of foamed PVC block is about $1,500-2,000/ton.
In terms of physical properties, the PVC block has better hardness and abrasion resistance, and the HDPE block has better tensile strength. In terms of chemical properties, PVC block is resistant to acids, alkalis, salts, and organic solvents, but it will be corroded by concentrated sulfuric acid and concentrated nitric acid. The HDPE block has better oil resistance.
Common sizes of PVC blocks are 800 x 600 mm, 1000 x 600 mm, and 1020 x 570 x 25 mm.
